Philadelphia Comb Back Chair with Arms
With its saddle-like seat and turned-spindle construction, the Windsor Chair has had the longest running popularity of any style of chair design in recent history, with a two hundred year run from about 1700 to 1900. Even today, the Windsor chair still stands as a favorite for the reasons it was popular originally. It is strong enough to survive hard daily use, attractive enough that is will fit in all but the most ornate of settings, light enough to be moved about easily, and cost-effective enough to fit most budgets.
This authentic comb-back armchair is modeled from a similar style of chair built in the mid-1700’s in Philadelphia and eastern Pennsylvania, after which the style migrated to other parts of New England. This style adds a taller back to the structure of an early low-back style Windsor chair, leaving the latter’s advantage of a built-in armrest. Dimensions: 25” x 17” x 46”.
